Hour To Give: Making Sure No Single Mum Feels Forgotten This Mother’s Day

Who organises the breakfast in bed, handmade cards, or flowers for mums without a partner to rally the troops on Mother’s Day? ko
This year, MammaKind is proud to launch Hour To Give, a heartwarming new initiative designed to ensure that single mums of young children feel seen, celebrated, and supported this Mother’s Day.
Born from a simple but powerful idea, Hour To Give asks friends, neighbours, and extended family to gift just one hour of their morning on Mothering Sunday (Sunday 30 March) to help bring joy to a single mum in their life or local community.
Whether it’s helping kids make a homemade card, preparing a thoughtful breakfast, or simply offering a few kind words and a hug—this small gesture can mean the world.
Why this matters
New research commissioned by MammaKind highlights just how much this support is needed:
– 45% of single mums get less than an hour to themselves each day
– 36% simply want to be told they’re appreciated on Mother’s Day
– 40% would love a bunch of flowers
– 26% would love a home-cooked breakfast
– 24% would love a handmade card from their children
With an estimated 2.7 million single mother households in the UK—and many raising young children without a partner’s help—it’s easy to see how a day meant for rest and recognition can feel like just another Sunday.
One Hour. A Big Difference
The Hour To Give campaign is brought to life by inspiring women like Tasha Amato, a single mum and stroke survivor from Lewisham. In 2022, Tasha experienced a life-altering stroke that left her unable to walk, talk, or remember her loved ones. Through months of rehabilitation, she has regained her independence and is now back home raising her 8-year-old son, Archie.
Tasha shared:
“Being a single Mum means you do a Mum and Dad’s job. It’s very special but also very full on. The Hour To Give campaign is a great way to make sure mums like me feel appreciated. Just one hour of your time could make a huge difference.”
Her sister Emma recently surprised her with plans for Mother’s Day, including help from Archie and their nieces — showing just how powerful small gestures can be.
